Do you want to complement your academic learning with hands-on professional experience in student experience and services? The ROSE С»ÆÊéÊÓÆµ Higher Education Internship is a unique paid opportunity designed exclusively for С»ÆÊéÊÓÆµ students enrolled in С»ÆÊéÊÓÆµâ€™s MEd program in higher education within the Student Development & Student Services field.

С»ÆÊéÊÓÆµ MEd students are matched with a professional staff member within ROSE for a tailored project-based internship. Projects are based on needs within ROSE as well as the intern’s skill set, so each internship is unique!

Roles and Responsibilities

The intern will work under the supervision of a designated member of the С»ÆÊéÊÓÆµ ROSE team to complete a defined project within the internship term. The intern is expected to engage in regular check-ins with both their staff supervisor and assigned faculty member to ensure consistent progress toward their academic and professional goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Fulfill all academic course requirements and assignments.
  • Complete all project deliverables under the guidance and direction of the staff supervisor.
  • Conduct program evaluations or assessments as needed.
  • Participate in job shadowing within the assigned student affairs unit or partner office.
  • Research best practices relevant to the assigned project and provide informed recommendations.
  • Support students, including offering guidance and referring them to appropriate services as needed.
  • Assist with the delivery and promotion of existing programming and initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned to support the goals of the unit.

Requirements

Eligibility Criteria
  • Must be enrolled in the MEd in Higher Education program under the Student Development and Student Services in Higher Education field (LHAE).
  • Internship duration:
    • Summer Internship: 4-month placement
    • Fall-Winter Internship: 8-month placement
Application Requirements

Application is made separately for the intership placement with ROSE (apply via the link below) and for the academic component, the internship course.

Submit the following materials to Professor David Kim (Course Instructor):

  1. Personal Statement (Max 750 words), including:
    • A clear outline of your career goals and how a second internship supports your professional development.
    • Your motivation for pursuing an internship including what you hope to achieve and how you plan to contribute to the organization.
    • Identify key transferable skills gained during LHA1858H if applying for LHA1859H.
  2. Updated Resume
    • Include relevant extracurricular activities that demonstrate your commitment to the field and ongoing professional growth.
  3. Availability Confirmation
    • Confirm your ability to meet the internship schedule and complete the minimum requirement of 120 hours.

If you are applying for LHA1859H, also include a letter of recommendation from your LHA1858H internship supervisor.

Internship Commitment
  • Students will complete the intership course alongside and for the same duration as their internship project.
  • The internship requires 7 to 12 hours of work per week, typically equivalent to one full working day with the assigned department.
  • A minimum commitment of 120 hours is expected for the Summer internship.
Class Availability
  • Students must be available for class meetings during the internship term. If this is your first internship, you will need to register in LHA1858H, if it is your second, you will need to register in LHA1859H.
  • Classes will be offered in both online and in-person formats on the St. George campus.
Internship Commitment
  • Students will complete the intership course alongside and for the same duration as their internship project.
  • The internship requires 7 to 12 hours of work per week, typically equivalent to one full working day with the assigned department.
  • A minimum commitment of 200 hours is expected for the Fall-Winter internship.
Class Availability

The ROSE С»ÆÊéÊÓÆµ Higher Education Internship is a unique opportunity exclusively for students enrolled in LHAE’s MEd in Higher Education, Student Development & Student Services in Higher Education Field. However, students from other С»ÆÊéÊÓÆµ MEd programs will be considered, so long as they meet the course eligibility requirements. To ensure you are academically eligible to apply, please contact Professor David Kim. Only students who are academically eligible to take LHA1858H and LHA1859H as electives will be able to apply.

Summer Internship application deadline - April 30, 2026

Fall-Winter Internship application deadline - August 30, 2025 

International students are welcome to apply. International students wishing to apply for the internship must have a valid study permit, be enrolled full-time in one of LHAE’s MEd programs in Higher Education and have a Canadian social insurance number (SIN). Please visit the   for more details about the conditions and limitations to work off campus. Please contact Professor David Kim to determine your academic eligibility for courses LHA1858H or LHA1859H.

Part-time students enrolled in one of LHAE’s MEd in Higher Education program may apply but must be able to fulfil the on-campus work component of the internship. If you are a part-time student and have a full-time job, you may not be able to commit to the internship. Yes! The LHA1858H course is a 0.5 credit elective course co-requisite students undertaking a first student services internship. A second internship may subsequently be completed in conjunction with the LHA1859H course code.
